Claims Timeline
When the WAI56 claim was lodged it was for the benefit of all descendants of the original 254 owners identified in 1893 by the Native Land Court.
Our rights and responsibilities over our land and resources are based in Tikanga and is sourced in take raupata and take tupuna. The common law also recognises our customary rights and responsibilities over land, sea and waterways. The Treaty of Waitangi guarantees our tino rangatiratanga over all land, resources and other taonga.
These gifts came from those original Tupuna who were our past, we are the present and our mokopuna are our future and for their sakes we will continue to seek justice.
New 254 Entity

We seek to make our whānau whanui complete - we want ALL descendants of the original Tupuna to benefit from appropriate and fair reparation.
Our situation is unique, and together with our whānau we will consider a new 254 entity, with the best governance, legal and tax structure.
